General contractors are required by insurance to ensure that each and every subcontrator provides a certificate of insurance naming the general as additional insured. General contractors should also require proof of workers compensation or a letter of exemption before allowing subcontractors on a job site.
Workers compensation insurance will be needed for this accident, and general liability may also come into play if the accident is litigated.
